High ground levels and poor drainage were allowing moisture to remain against the external wall, contributing to dampness internally.
A French drain was installed around the affected area by excavating a trench and filling it with free-draining gravel. This creates a path of least resistance for water, allowing it to drain away from the wall rather than soaking into the brickwork. The masonry was also treated with a breathable water-repellent coating to reduce water absorption while allowing the wall to dry naturally.
Outcome: Improved drainage, reduced moisture retention, and enhanced protection against penetrating damp.
